Ashford Central School : Primary
An overview of the project by classroom teacher Michael Simpson
“Our three main ingredients were Wagyu, Lilly Pilly and Wattle Seed. One the local elders talked to the students about bush foods that were eaten locally. The students picked Lillipillies and the Wattle seed. The Wagyu breed of cattle is grown locally.
We tasted and cooked with all three ingredients. This was a very interesting experience. The students have been really switched on by it all. We had a cook off of some different recipes which the students had selected and then picked one which used all three ingredients which the students liked. “Wagyu with wattle seed jus and garden salad with Lilly Pilly dressing”
The Wagyu was locally grown by the principal. The Garden salad came from our school garden which the kids had planted and grown. The Wattle Seed and Lilly Pilly is a local indigenous foods and not all of the students had experienced a taste. I have to say the students and our judges have had their taste buds expanded! “
